If you've ever heard Michael, Jameel and Ty -- who perform under the moniker Majestic K. Funk -- sing in the subways, then you would agree that this threesome could not have chosen a more appropriate name. "I'll Do," one of the group's many original songs, showcases their lush three-part harmonies, floating atop a bed of tight, funk grooves. In the subways, Majestic accompanies themselves with only guitar, snare drum and hi-hat. However, in the studio, they took advantage of all the creative tools available, including drum loops, synthesizers and most important of all -- PHAT BASS -- to fully realize their musical vision.
"I'll Do" features Michael Young's sweet and soulful lead vocals. His artistry has earned him the admiration of his subway performing peers, as well as his token-toting fans. Jameel, who is revered as the "funky drummer of the subways," keeps passengers in motion while they wait for the next train. And Ty's syncopated guitar rhythms beautifully blend the group's vocal harmonies with its infectious beats. Usually heard at 72nd & Broadway or Columbus Circle, the sound that these three native New Yorkers (two of whom are brothers) have fashioned for themselves could best be summed up as "sugar in the raw."
